The concert hall forms the centre of Blaibach’s urban revitalisation, alongside a new community centre and public square created through state-funded urban development. Set into the slope at the heart of the village, the building takes the form of a solitary concrete volume that follows the existing topography. Its granite façade connects the project to Blaibach’s tradition of stone carving, while the inclined structure opens towards the new square and guides visitors down a staircase into the foyer below ground level.
The foyer contains the functional areas of the building, including the cloakroom, sanitary facilities and bar, while also creating a gradual transition towards the auditorium. From here, the circulation leads visitors through the building and into the concert hall. Precise light slots illuminate the interior, introducing daylight into the seemingly solid volume and contributing to the atmosphere of the space.
The concert hall’s geometry is largely determined by its acoustic requirements. The building is constructed from prefabricated concrete, with a complex formwork system allowing the difficult geometry to be realised. The dominant inclined surfaces incorporate LED lighting, while bass absorbers are concealed behind the light slots and beneath the stairs. The untreated concrete surfaces remain visible throughout the hall, with their textured character also helping to absorb mid-range frequencies.
The building’s incline follows the rise of the surrounding terrain and leads towards the gallery, where seemingly transparent seats appear to float above the light slots. The concert hall was designed specifically for its function rather than as a multifunctional venue, and its stage is equipped with modern LED technology. Together, the concrete structure, acoustic geometry and controlled lighting define the character of the interior.
