The new building is dedicated to a single activity: artistic work. Conceived as a place for focused and solitary creative practice, its compact volume is defined by a continuous envelope of insulation and light-coloured render that extends seamlessly across both walls and roof. This restrained exterior establishes a quiet relationship with the surrounding landscape, while the interior forms a continuous concrete volume shaped by the building’s monolithic structure and the need for robust, uncluttered workspaces.
The studio is set on a sloping, tree-filled site on the northern hillside of Tibidabo, adjacent to the painter’s home. The two-storey building measures 12 by 13.5 metres, with a total floor area of 335 square metres. The upper level is occupied by a painting studio designed as the largest and most open space possible, while the lower floor, created by the building’s connection to the terrain, accommodates a sculpture workshop and an artwork storage area.
The painting studio is conceived as an inward-looking space, without outward views. Natural light enters primarily through a large skylight positioned where four irregularly inclined roof planes meet above the five-metre-high perimeter walls. A staircase, placed discreetly along one side, connects the studio to the lower level without interrupting the openness of the main space.
With a ceiling height of 3.5 metres, the lower floor is divided between storage at the rear, against the retaining wall, and a sculpture workshop at the front. A long horizontal opening extends across the façade, connecting the workshop to an outdoor working terrace and framing views of the surrounding woodland.
